Ironically, I gave a talk at my guild meeting this morning on “Finishing Strong” and going over basics and tips on batting, backing, and binding. So today’s Sunday Stash report is on starting strong. The 14 pillowcases certainly help, as does finishing one of the Grand Illusion quilts (pictures whenever it stops raining, because it’s been raining for DAYS, ugh).
Here’s the finished baby version of Bonnie’s pattern, but with a simple outer border instead of the pieced one during basting.
And here’s a center with no sashing between the blocks - I’m using the sashing pieces and the pieced border to finish this top out.
You can see more Grand Illusion progress on Bonnie’s blog.

Great numbers for the first report! Sweet baby quilt. Congrats on all your finishes.
An excellent start. I managed 3 pillowcases New Year’s day and moved several projects forward. The arrival of the new grand daughter yesterday is responsible for the 8 yards of fabric I added today. 4 yards flannel for receiving blankets and 4 yards cotton for crib sheets. I will be very productive this week :-).
If there was a prize for the best start of 2015, I think you would get it. Way to go!
Your BH quilt is awesome (no surprise). Your border fabric choice for the baby quilt is spot on. Lovely.
Very nice! I definitely like the border you chose. I do think that the stars are more apparent when sashing is sewn between the blocks, but it still looks great without sashing. Don’t you just love how one quilt pattern can be changed to make so many different quilts! I really like your fabrics and color choices! Beautiful!
I really like the second version of the mystery. It’s amazing how just leaving off the sashing changed the design so much.
I love how different the quilt looks with the beautiful border. Good choice (IMHO).
Pretty border fabric on the baby quilt. I really like it both solo and with the quilt.
I don’t know why but I didn’t realize you were doing multiple Grand Illusions. I am way behind in reading posts so I guess Twitter and IG don’t keep me as well informed as I thought. 🙂
I like both versions! The print border is a nice finish on the first one.
